Discrepancies and Curiosities - Part 10
Scene 10 - Another Amulet
- The script has Rookery describe how his ancestors had to persuade the magician to make another amulet for them to send the vampires to hell. This brings to mind the following:
- Was the magician a sympathizer who knew a way to make the vampires human again and set out to do it for their sake?
- Were the vampires cursed magically? It's possible in a universe where it's clear magic exists and people can use it, but was that really how that happened, or is it just that the vampires view their situation like a curse (a la, so beautiful it's a curse)?
- If the latter, is there a progenitor, and, if so, who? Is it Dracula? Judas? In the series, Dracula is acknowledged as the ruler of all the world's vampires (and I understand he's kind of a goof), but does that mean he's the first one or just the one in charge for whatever reason (powers, age, the old one died, etc.)?
- "It's my graveyard. It's my job. I'll do it. What am I doing?" is shortened by dropping the "What am I doing?" part, but on paper it's hilarious.
- Rudolph is the only vampire to awaken when his brother Gregory is attacking the caretaker, followed by the other members of the family, not the all-in-one deal presented in the script.
- The fight between Frederick and Gregory is longer in the script. For example, Frederick does not immediately jump into asking if Gregory thinks he's oblivious; instead, there is an effort by Gregory to get the other family members on his side of the argument. When he gets called on his crap that's when Frederick asks if Gregory thinks he's oblivious, and the argument continues from there.
- Funnily enough I wonder how it would've resolved itself if Rookery hadn't intervened. I'm not sure if it's a common occurrence for Gregory to pick fights or if he was banned from running from his problems as the timeline got shorter.
- Rookery in the final cut thanks the caretaker for his "public spirit" before his light gets shattered. In the script it's afterward (and quite frankly doesn't leave much room for anger).
Important!!!
You Need to know of this, it's as plain and simple as that. And so, it is my solemn duty to inform you.

After our blood, freezes the flood
All through the night and gifted with sight -
to see in the dark
They can see in the dark
You know they can fly, can fly oh so high
Live under the earth and gifted from birth
They can see in the dark
They can see in the dark
Vampires, vampires
They can see in the dark
They can see in the dark
All through the night and gifted with sight
Vampires
After our blood, freezes the flood
With dangers at hand cry out through the land
They can see in the dark (background: vampires can)
They can see in the dark (background: vampires can)
Vampires, vampires
They can see in the dark
They can see in the dark
With dangers at hand cry out through the land
Vampires, vampires
You know they can fly
Can fly oh so high
If you see one tonight
Don’t put up a fight
Make peace while you can
Make a friend if you dare
A friend who can fly
Can fly oh so high
And see in the dark
And live under the earth
Make a friend if you can
Of vampires
Vampires, vampires, vampires…
Vampires can
They can see in the dark
And also, as I was perusing through videos trying to find the right one, it has been brought to my attention that the band Darkroom is a real thing, rather than something made up for the purposes of DKV85. I'm suffering a nerd crisis as I feel I've committed a serious lapse in being a nerd of all things TLV/DKV. So excuse me while I go correct this.

So I hope all of my fang-faced and sympathizing followers are just as excited as I am!!!

Culross Palace
As I don't believe I've posted these before, despite being promised in TLV Abridged scene 19. So here they are at long last! Exterior and interior shots of Culross Palace (I found these online somewhere. I've never been lucky enough to be on sight).

Discrepancies and Curiosities - Part 9
Scene 9 - Getting Even/Infestation
- The payback scene plays out differently onscreen. To wit:
- The boys are disturbed by the windows opening and closing rather than Rudolph's and Tony's voices.
- It takes them a while to catch on to the identity of their mysterious midnight visitor.
- Rudolph gives them a more elaborate speech and a greater show of his powers (he, without the aid of his hands, makes a pair of wings sprout from behind his ears, rather than pulling on his ears to produce the wings).
- If the boys wet themselves, they don't notice.
- The flight home was cut.
- Robert's slide presentation is manual.
- Lord McAshton does not express a wish to have Rookery's head in the final cut (for good reasons, I'm sure).
- There's no memo recorder, nor is there Dottie's insistence on the family talking together, though she is clearly bothered by the fact that Bob couldn't give a damn less about all the hard work she put into afternoon tea.
Guess what came in the mail today!!!
That's right, fangfaces!!! It's my copy of the Little Vampire novelization of the movie of the novel series!!!! Can't wait to read it and post my thoughts on how it differs from (and hopefully expands on) the movie!!!
